ESB fyrir Ísland?

Í tilefni fimmtugsafmælis Rómarsáttmálans þá tel ég við hæfi að birta fyrsta partinn úr ræðu sem ég flutti nýlega um ESB:

The European Union is a great idea. Its existence has promoted peace on the mainland the last sixty years. Without peace, progress is impossible, peace and economic growth go hand in hand. From this point of view the  European Union has proven its value.

The European Union is also a great idea for states that have reacently gained their independence again and are now on the path of democracy, rule of law and market economy. It’s a great idea for states that do not have the settings were the core value is progress, states that do not have international credit, states were opportunities are few.

The EU is in that matter a great idea for those who need it, for the people of the continent that aren´t as fortunate. For these states the European Union is an desirable option. For states like that the disadvantages that follow membership,  are light in comparison with the gain of entering the Union. Iceland is not one of those states!
